What was Ford’s intention for the 2021 model? A full redesign. Though you may not perceive it at first glance, it’s brand new from grille to tailgate. A PowerBoost Hybrid V-6, 10-speed automatic to replace the six-speed, three cab configurations (long and short bed lengths) are amidst some of its functional upgrades.

Let us tell you why the 2021 Ford F-150 was made for all four Minnesota seasons (Summer, Fall, Winter, and Second Winter). And why the 2020 model is so last year.

Towing Capacity

If there is one thing that’s going to sway you to purchase the 2021 over the 2020 F-150, it’s towing capacity. This is one thing that will sway most of the potential owners’ decision whether or not to buy the 2021 Ford F-150.

It got better.

Not only did it get better, but it improved on every. Single. Engine option.

The 3.3-liter, V-6 engine-powered 2021 F-150 can now tow up to 8,200 pounds as opposed to 7,700 pounds in the 2020 model. The 2.7-liter, V-6 EcoBoost engine sees a massive increase of 1,600 pounds over its predecessor and can now tow up to 10,100 pounds. The payload capacity is ten pounds more than before and is now rated at 2,480 pounds.

Exterior

The Ford F-150’s masculinity has never been in question, and the 2021 mod is no exception.  While there’s no drastic exterior changes, the 2021 blue oval pick-up sports an aluminum alloy body based on a steel frame. Ford confidently claims that every single body panel on this truck is new.

Let’s talk about the grille, and how Ford is now offering ELEVEN different grille designs on the 2021 lineup. Within each grille are new and improved active shutters that close at quicker speeds for better ride dynamics.

The side profile boasts a more defined beltline, fender vents, and roomier wheel arches, fitting wheels up to 22-inches. And on top of 11 grille options, the classic automaker is offering 13 new wheel designs. Also, the 2021 F-150 will come with power running boards that lower as you approach closer to the truck when you have the keys on you. Ford is still offering the same body style and bed sizes, and in the same combinations on the 2021 F-150 as its predecessor.

Interior

Ford freshened up the cabin quite a bit in the 2021 model. New designs include state-of-the-art color choices for the upholstery, expanded storage spaces, and detailed dual-tone, soil-resistant seats for even the base trim. We’re thinking Ford’s goal was to create an all-around better work truck among other capabilities. To achieve versatility, Ford introduced ‘Interior Work Surface’ with the 2021 F-150. According to the automaker, one-third of F-150 owners use their laptop (up to 15-inch systems comfortably) in the truck, but until now there was no convenient surface. So, in a genius move the company decided to convenience the inconvenient by creating a gear lever that folds down and provides a flat, perfect sized surface. We’re talking lego-like fits. Tetris fans will be thrilled. And the best part is, the arrangement can be had on any trim and any seating style.

Now, the seats on the F-150 have always been comfortable, but the 14th gen of the truck is giving Slumberland a run for their money (Kidding, please don’t sleep and drive. Although, there are Max Recline Seats’ on the 2021 F-150 that fold flat to nearly 180 degrees. The bottom cushion rises to meet the backrest, while the upper back support rotates forward up to 10 degrees for added comfort. This is available on the top-tier trims – King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited. Surprisingly, this feature will be the most useful on work truck trims and the company has said that the XLT.

Technology

As you may have suspected, the 2021 beast is as smart as it is stylish, as techy as it is tough. Improvements drip off every aspect of the truck’s technology. A 12-inch digital screen is a rather commanding presence in the cabin. The base trims on the 2020 model came with a 4.2-inch screen, but the 2021 F-150 will feature an eight-inch touchscreen.

The higher models get an even bigger 12-inch touchscreen. It runs on the SYNC4 infotainment system that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system also comes with the latest maps, gives real-time traffic updates, and features hands-free voice control.

In Closing

There’s a reason the Ford F-150 has been top dog for 44 consecutive years. It never stops improving.
